Grading scales: percentage to letter grade
The two most common US scales, with the GPA points for each letter. Your school's own scale is the one that counts.
A+ to F (plus and minus)
A to F (90 / 80 / 70 / 60)
Why your school's scale might differ
- Different cutoffs. Some schools use a 7-point scale (93 for an A, 85 for a B, 77 for a C, 70 for a D).
- Rounding. Some gradebooks round 89.5% up to 90%, and some never round.
- A+ and D-. Some schools don't give an A+ or a D-, and some count an A+ as 4.3.
Every calculator on this site lets you switch between the two scales above, or choose My own scale and enter your school's cutoffs for an A, B, C and D. For example, the 7-point scale is 93, 85, 77 and 70. Your scale is saved in your browser and used on every calculator here.
